Just like any other part of your body, nails also require special treatment and attention for the cleanliness. If you are very well dressed and have proper hair cut along with all the required accessories but your nails are dirty, people will notice this easily and they will have a bad impression about you. What is Toenail Fungus?

If you have cracks in your nails or you have cuts in your skin, there are chances that you get infections in those cracks or cuts of nails and skin. Toenail fungus is also an infection which can change the color of your nails and they look dirty. It also makes the nails thicker which can hurt you as well.

What are the causes and symptoms of Toenail Fungus?

There might be various causes of toenail fungus. You can take proper precautions to avoid the issue if you know the causes of this infection. Usually when you expose your feet to humid and wet conditions for a long time or you work on a place which is humid can cause toenail fungus.

If you have skin disease or psoriasis, or often sweat while wearing socks and shoes then you can get infected with this fungal as well. Diabetes and the disorder in immune system can also cause your toenails get infected with this fungus.

But you can get an idea that your nails are getting infected if you see the color of our nails is changing to dirty yellowish. In some cases, you can have white marks on our nails. Either you have only the white spots or you can have white spots along with the change in color to yellow around the base of nail. It is also a sign of toenail fungus.

Treatment of Toenails with Fungal Infection

Prevention is better than cure. So try your best to take care of your nails to avoid getting infected. But in case you feel something wrong with your nails, your first step should be to consult with your doctor or skin care specialist.

Your doctor will decide what type of fungus you have and what should be the treatment. But it could be the use of antifungal prescription pills or he can suggest you some topical cream that should be used directly on the infected toenails.

If the infection is severed then doctor can either remove the infected part of the nail or the skin. And in the worst case, you might need to get your nail complete removed from the skin with surgery.
